Garment Labels

Garment labels indicate, in addition to the fibre composition with corresponding percentages, a series of symbols regarding correct care.

The symbols are:

Water Washing
The basin is the symbol used for information relating to water washing.

The number on the inside indicates the maximum washing temperature in centigrades: 90° - 60° - 40° - etc.

The line under the basin indicates that the garment, to avoid being damaged, ought to be treated with care: rinse in water of ever-decreasing coolness, short spin cycle.

The hand inside the basin indicates the garment must be hand-washed, that the maximum temperature must not exceed 40°C, and that the garment must not be wrung.

The cross on the basin indicates that the garment cannot be washed in water.

Bleaching
The triangle is the chlorine bleaching symbol, that is with bleach.

If "CL" appears in the triangle this means that the garment can be treated with bleach.
If the triangle is crossed out by a cross this means that the garment cannot be treated with chlorine.

Ironing
The iron is the ironing information symbol. The ideal temperature for every garment is indicated by the black spots on the iron.

3 black dots indicate that the maximum temperature of the element is 200°C and the fabric ought to be ironed when damp.
2 black dots indicate that the maximum temperature is 150°C and a damp cloth should be placed between the element and the fabric to be ironed.
1 black spot indicates that the maximum temperature is 100°C and a damp cloth ought to be placed between the element and the garment to be ironed.
The crossed-out iron symbol indicates that the garment cannot be ironed.

Dry Cleaning
The circle is the dry-cleaning symbol and the signs on the inside indicate the suitable solvent-type.

An "A" symbol in the circle indicates that the garment can be washed with all solvents generally used for dry-cleaning.
A "P" symbol in the circle indicates that the garment can be washed with perchloroethylene following the standard procedures without using trichloroethylene.
A line under the "P" circle indicates that the garment can be washed with perchloroethylene with the standard procedures without using trichloroethylene, limiting the addition of water and the drying temperature.
An "F" in the circle indicates that the dry-cleaning ought to be carried out with hydrocarbons.
A line under the "F" circle indicates that the dry-cleaning ought to be carried out with hydrocarbons, limiting the addition of water and the drying temperature.
The crossed-our circle indicates that the garment cannot be dry cleaned.

Drying
The drying symbols represented by a square, are not compulsory.

A circle in a square indicates that the garment can be dried in a drying machine.
A cross on the square with a circle indicates that the garment cannot be dried in the drying machine.
An arc on the upper part of the square indicates that the garment, once spun, must be hung-up to dry.
Three vertical lines inside the square indicate that the garment must be hung-up to dry, wet, that is without having been spun.
One single horizontal line inside the square indicates that the garment must be stretched out on a flat surface to dry.
